COCO BY CHANEL: A Fragrance History
Mark your calendars! Coco Noir, the third fragrance in Chanel’s Coco series, will launch Friday August 17th. An homage to Coco Chanel herself, the fragrance has top notes of grapefruit and Calabrian bergamot and a heart of rose absolute as well as Brazilian tonka bean, Venezuelan tonka bean and bourbon vanilla. Following on from the original Coco scent, launch in 1984, Chanel’s perfumer Christopher Sheldrake tells WWD ‘Noir sits in its own space, We are careful not to launch a lot of fragrances – we choose to create scents that represent an era, not a passing fancy.’ With the bottle’s jet black and gold accents in the signature Coco shape, Coco Noir is definitely holding its own.
Chanel is legendary when it comes to picking the face of a fragrance, but with no announcement as to who will star in the Coco Noir campaign, CS takes a look back at the history of Coco’s women who represent an era, and not a passing fancy.
